The hCG diet is a plan that uses a natural body hormone called hCG to stimulate your metabolism to burn fat while maintaining muscle. It was initially created by Dr Simeons in the 1950s whos protocol “Pounds and Inches: A Guide to Weight Loss’ has been modified over time to produce todays protocols. There are many hCG programs on the market, however it is worth remembering hCG is a prescription medication and should be used under the supervision of a doctor.
HCG is a hormone naturally produced in large amounts during pregnancy. It is believed to mobilise fat stores during pregnancy to provide the energy and nutrition required for the developing baby between meals. HCG is however also found in every human tissue including men and non pregnant women.
It is hCGs ability to unlock fat stores to provide energy for the body, that makes it a useful weight loss tool. HCG is therefore used to:
- Target fat storage areas ( hips, abdomen, thighs etc).
- Eliminate food cravings.
- Re establish weight set point.
- Ensure the diet protocol is manageable.
At Ministry of Skin offer a 3 or 6 week hCG diet that consists of hCG injections and a calorie controlled diet. The reduced calorie intake is why you loose the weight, but the hGC enables the body to mobilise body fat stores to be used for energy during this period, so that you feel well and loose fat and weight in the process. The program is fully supported and supervised by a doctor and a trained healthcare team. In the correct hands hCG can be a great option for weight reduction.
HCG Diet FAQ
At Ministry of Skin a thorough medical history and examination occurs at the first consultation. Your goals and expectations are discussed and blood investigations are ordered. The diet is then discussed and all your questions answered.
A 3 or 6 week program followed by a 3 week maintenance plan is usually recommended.
The program starts with a week of your normal diet plus prescribed natural supplements. These supplements initiate the fat burning process, replenish the bodies nutrients and minerals, repair and prepare the gut and prepare the body for calorie restriction.
Then follows either a 21 day or 42 day program of daily hCG injections and a specific 500 calorie restricted diet. The diet and how the injections are taken are fully discussed with you or can be performed at the clinic.
A very important 3 week maintenance phase is then entered to ensure the weight loss is maintained and the body can protect the new lower weight point for the long term. During this time you return to normal calorie intake.
The diet comes with a very extensive manual that covers all aspects, handy tips and recipes.
The majority of men and women are potentially suitable candidates.
It can be utilised to loose large amounts or small amounts of fat on the body.
Ministry of Skin recommend you book a consultation with a doctor at the clinic to address you concerns, medical history and goals to ensure the program is right for you.
As a guide, if you need to loose 7Kg or less a 3 week program will surfice.
If you wish to loose greater than 7Kg, a 6 week program is recommended.
You can expect to loose 400g a day if the program is followed. This however is only a guide and weight loss will vary for each individual. In general men loose more weight than women, but women will notice more of a change in body measurements.
The hCG hormone is naturally present in men and in fact men usually have faster results and tend to loose more weight on the diet.
There are rarely any possible severe side effects of using the hCG weight loss program. But since it involves a prescription medication and the level of calorie restriction is severe, this diet should only be used under close medical supervision. HCG can sometimes cause side effects, including headache, fatigue, irritability, restlessness, period changes, depression, and fluid retention.
