Wrinkles

Wrinkles are typically identified as a sign of age, however the age they appear can vary.

Unfortunately we all end up with wrinkles. This however is not always a bad thing. Some wrinkles are good. But for some they can produce one or more lines that we just do not like, or they start to affect affect our confidence.

At Ministry of Skin we aim to listen to your concerns and help you identify why you have the lines of concern. We can then individualise a program for you that fits your needs for the look you desire. We like to keep you looking as you and give you a natural look.

Wrinkles are typically identified as a sign of age. However the age they appear can vary. Generally wrinkles start to appear when our skins inner layer, called the dermis, starts to thin and loose its elastin and collagen. This causes the skin to loose its stretchiness and structure. Ageing skin also starts to lose its ability to hold on to moisture, it makes less oil, and is slower to heal. All this contributes to the wrinkling process which is speed up by damage from sun exposure.

Other factors that can increase the development of facial wrinkles include :

Facial expression

Unfortunately as you contract your facial muscles to make an expression it creases the skin into a fold or wrinkle. The more expressions you make and the stronger your facial muscles are, the higher the risk of having more and deeper facial wrinkles.
Common wrinkles caused by expressions are :

  • The lines between your eyebrows (frown lines) – made when you are angry
  • Lines fanning out from the corner of your eyes (crow’s feet) – from smiling
  • Forehead lines – from raising the eyebrows

Smoking

Smoking reduces the production of collagen within the skin, a key part of its structure. The reduction in collagen paves the way for wrinkles.

Treatments for Wrinkles At Ministry of Skin we can assess your skin and individualise a plan to help repair, protect and rejuvenate your skin. Most plans are for the long term as what you do at home, what your skin is exposed to in the future and treatments you decide to have done all need reassessment and continued maintenance to keep your desired look. Treatments required are all assessed on an individual basis and what suits one may not suit another. It is often possible that a combination of treatments are required to best treat the condition concerned. At Ministry of Skin we listen to your concerns and give you trusted advise of the options available to you.
